April's Job Report: Rate Remains at 5.0%

April’s job report saw an increase of 160,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in several industries, including professional and business services, health care, and financial activities. Job losses continued in mining.
April’s job report saw an increase of 160,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in several industries, including professional and business services, health care, and financial activities. Job losses continued in mining.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 200,000 per month.
April’s unemployment rate remained at 5.0%. The civilian labor force participation rate decreased slightly to 62.8%, which was 63% in March.
The report found that in April, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 8 cents to $25.53. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.5%.
