September’s Job Report: Rate Remains at 5.1%

September’s job report sees an increase of 142,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in health care and information, while mining employment fell.
September’s job report sees an increase of 142,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in health care and information, while mining employment fell. So far in 2015, job growth has averaged 198,000 per month, compared with an average monthly gain of 260,000 in 2014. 

September’s unemployment rate remained at 5.1% from August. The number of unemployed people decreased to 7.9 million from 8.0 million in August.

The report found that in September, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls stayed the same from August’s number of $25.09. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.2%.
