January’s job report saw a gain of 225,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in construction, health care, transportation and warehousing.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 211,000 per month.
January’s unemployment rate rose to 3.6%, slightly up from 3.5% in December. The civilian labor force participation was 63.4%, up from 63.2% in December.
The report found that in January, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 7 cents to $28.44. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 3.1%.
