December’s job report saw a gain of 145,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in retail and health care.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 184,000 per month.
December’s unemployment rate remained at 3.5%, same as November. The civilian labor force participation was 63.2%, unchanged from November.
The report found that in December, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 3 cents to $28.32. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.9%.
