How to Keep Your Employees Happy

4 Tips to Keep Your Employees Happy

Jan 02, 2020

A company's most valuable asset is its workforce. Motivated, productive, and satisfied employees pushes a company forward, upholds the values, and makes its mission possible. Keeping employees satisfied and happy isn’t dependent on a magic formula; after all, not everyone ticks the same way. However, that doesn’t mean giving up. Here are four tips to get started on boosting your employees’ happiness.

1 - Offer benefits and compensation

Many companies use the tried and true tactic of compensation incentives such as raises or bonuses. Companies also offer more enriched benefits such as matching 401(k)s, health insurance, vacation days, or holiday pay. Likewise, consider special perks that will allow employees, especially working parents, a healthy work-life balance such as a more flexible work schedule or telecommuting options. Rewards and benefits are excellent motivators.

2 - Develop the company culture

Employees are happiest in positive work environments. Companies can offer activities such as happy hours, company sports teams, corporate outings, and various team-building activities. Events like these increases camaraderie among employees, encourages teamwork and communication, and can increase productivity in the workplace. Even gestures as small as recognizing employees' birthdays can make a noticeable impact. Of course, not all company cultures must be the same, so be conscious about developing a good company culture that is a fit for your values and employees.

3 - Reward good performances

A good rewards program can be very beneficial to employee satisfaction. There are several programs that can be set up to recognize employee achievement such as Employee of the Month, Attendance Bonuses, and Peer Recognition. Such programs can help build the confidence of employees, as well as set an example for the rest of the workforce.

4 - Value openness and honesty

Be upfront and transparent about changes, events, company goals, and deadlines. Employees left in the dark become distracted and unproductive when worrying about decisions and changes that may affect their job or job security. While increasing communication within the company, it will also make employees feel more comfortable when approaching bosses or managers. This will also encourage productive and effective feedback between managers and employees.

No matter what strategies you use, remember that the ROI is a happy workforce, and a happy workforce benefits the company. What are some other methods you use to keep your employees happy?
