June’s job report saw a gain of 224,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in professional and business services, in health care, and in transportation and warehousing.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 171,000 per month.
June's unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.7%,up from 3.6% in May. The civilian labor force participation was 62.9%, slightly up from 62.8% in May.
The report found that in June, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 6 cents to $27.90. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 3.1%.
