April’s job report saw a gain of 263,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in professional and business services, construction, health care, and social assistance.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 169,000 per month.
April's unemployment rate dropped to 3.6%, down from 3.8% in March. The civilian labor force participation is at 62.8%, down slightly from 63.0% in March.
The report found that in April, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 6 cents to $27.77. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 3.2%.
