December’s job report saw a gain of 312,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in health care, food services and drinking places, construction, manufacturing and retail trade.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 254,000 per month.
December’s unemployment rate rose to 3.9%, up from 3.7% in November. The civilian labor force participation rose to 63.1%, up from November’s rate of 62.9%.
The report found that in December, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 11 cents to $27.48. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 3.2%.
