August’s job report saw a gain of 201,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in professional and business services, health care, wholesale trade, transportation and warehousing, and mining.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 185,000 per month.
August’s unemployment rate remained to 3.9%. The civilian labor force participation decreased slightly to 62.7%, down from 62.9% July.
The report found that in August, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 10 cents to $27.16. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.9%.
