July’s job report saw a gain of 157,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in professional and business services, manufacturing, health care and social assistance.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 224,000 per month.
July’s unemployment rate decreased to 3.9%. The civilian labor force participation remained 62.9%, unchanged from June.
The report found that in July, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 7 cents to $27.05. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.7%.
