April’s job report saw a gain of 164,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. There was an increase in professional and business services, manufacturing, health care, and mining.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 208,000 per month.
April’s unemployment rate edged down at 3.9%. The civilian labor force participation decreased slightly to 62.8%, down from 62.9% in March.
The report found that in April, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 4 cents to $26.84. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.6%.
