August’s job report saw an increase of 156,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in manufacturing, construction, professional and technical services, health care, and mining.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 185,000 per month.
August’s unemployment rate increased marginally to 4.4%, up from 4.3% in July. The civilian labor force participation remained at 62.9%.
The report found that in August, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls increased by 3 cents to $26.39. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.5%.
