May’s job report saw an increase of 138,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in health care and mining.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 121,000 per month.
May’s unemployment rate was slightly down at 4.3%, down from 4.4% in April. The civilian labor force participation declined by .2 to 62.7%
The report found that in May, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls increased by 4 cents to $26.22. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.5%.
