We spend a large portion of our waking hours a day at work and, if you work in an office environment, often the majority of that seated. We're all guilty of getting to work, turning on our computers and proceeding to stay stationary at our desks till it's time to go home even though we know the negative effects it can have. With packed schedules, we're all looking for a quick fix. Check out a few simple exercises you can do at your desk or in your next meeting below.
Looking for a simple exercise you can do while typing away on your latest reports? Try seated leg raises. For this exercise, simple straighten your legs and raise them up and hold for 5-10 seconds. Repeat this by lowering your legs without touching the floor and repeating. You can also repeat this one let at a time if you would like.
Looking to give your arms a workout from your desk? Try some tricep dips. For this, you will need a non-rolling desk chair (unless you want to get your workout on a 'roll'). Sit on the edge of the chair while gripping it with your hands. Straighten your arms to lift your body up and then bend your arms 90 degrees so that you dip down and hold for a few seconds. Repeat this for 8-10 reps.
This is a great exercise that not only will help your core but also has the benefit of being completely silent. To do this, just take a deep breath and tighten your abdominal muscles pulling them in towards your spine as you exhale and stay squeezed for 5-10 seconds, repeating for 12-15 reps. Next time you're sitting in another boring meeting, give your abs a little workout without anyone knowing.
With summer approaching, we're all looking to get a quick workout in at the office. What is your favorite desk exercise?
