April’s job report saw an increase of 211,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in leisure and hospitality, health care and social assistance, financial activities, and mining.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 174,000 per month.
April’s unemployment rate was little changed at 4.4%, down from 4.5% in March. The civilian labor force participation changed little to 62.9%.
The report found that in April, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls increased by 7 cents to $26.19. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.5%.
