December’s job report saw an increase of 156,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report. Jobs continued to trend up in health care and social assistance.
Over the past three months, job gains have averaged 165,000 per month.
December’s unemployment rate has risen slightly 4.7%, up from 4.6% in November. The civilian labor force participation rate held steady at 62.7%.
The report found that in December, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls increased by 10 cents to $26.00. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.9%.
