Are you someone who suffers from anxiety prior to stepping into an interview? No matter how much you prepare for an interview, does your heart beat uncontrollably and your palms sweat? You are not alone. Here are a few tips to relax your nerves before and during your next job interview.
Since an interview is not a routine task we typically experience, there is often an immense amount of uncertainty that can cause people to become anxious. While sitting in the lobby, practice some deep, smoothing breathes to relax your nerves.
There are always going to be unexpected questions or things that can potentially throw you off game. Though it might feel as though the interviewer is trying to trip you up, it is not their goal or intention. Don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer to repeat a question or ask for further explanation. Focus on having a two-way conversation about your experience and what this new position has to offer.
It’s important to try to be yourself in an interview. If you secured the interview, they obviously liked your background and skills. Now they want to test your communication skills and ability to interact with others.
Asking questions during a job interview shows that you did your research and are genuinely interested in investing your future into the company. Remember, an interview is just as beneficial for the employer as it is for you. It is an opportunity for you to determine if the company will be a good fit for you.
