July's job report sees an increase of 215,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly employment report. Job gains occurred in retail trade, health care, professional and technical services, and financial activities.
July's unemployment rate remained at 5.3% for the second month in a row. The number of unemployed persons was also unchanged at 8.3 million.
The report found that in July, average hourly earnings for employees on private, nonfarm payrolls rose by 5 cents to $24.99. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.1%.
