QPS knows that in tight labor markets, companies need to get creative with their hiring. The skills gap is a very real problem as baby boomers continue to retire and the new workforce doesn’t have the skills and knowledge to replace them at a high rate.
That’s why we’ve established our “Bridge to Success” program. QPS works with local schools to educate students on the opportunities that they have upon graduation. The students will tour local companies and learn more about what positions are at that company and industry. They meet with a company representative who gives an interactive explanation of what the company makes and the impact is has.
The students are able to fill out questionnaires on positions or a career they are interested in learning more about. QPS will them put together a “road map” of the experience that’s needed to get to that point. For example, if a student was interested in being a Plant Manager one day, they would need to start at any entry-level position like an operator, work their way up to supervisor or lead and manager from there.
The program found success with a collaboration between Neenah High School and Werner Electric Supply. 30 students were able to tour the distribution center and get exposure as to what working in that field would be like.
Garret Pelischek, talent acquisition specialist at Werner Electric said, “The Bridge to Success program with QPS was a great way to work with Neenah High School to introduce students to Werner Electric Supply. We appreciate being able to show the future workforce the great opportunities here at Werner Electric and in the Fox Valley!”
“We are proud that our program helps educate students on what an industrial career really looks like,” according to Steve Waller, QPS’ executive vice president of branch operations. “Long gone are the days where facilities were dirty and dangerous. Many of today’s spaces are high tech, extremely clean and advanced centers to work in.”
QPS also hopes the program will help retain youth within their communities once they see what opportunities in the local economy exist.
